Justice League Dark #30 Review

One last time…………..

This serves as an epilogue of sort for the Blight crossover as Zatanna adjusts to the new accommodations while Constantine goes on the drink.

We catch up with most of the characters still reeling from the trauma of their torture under Necro and Faust.

DeMatties brings back the on-the-brink Constantine while setting up a new arc dealing with the Nightmare Nurse.

The artwork by the team of Guinaldo-Irwin-Anderson brings a change in the look of the issue. But it suits the tempered atmosphere of this issue.

Constantine is wallowing and drinking in a bar when a girl comes up to him and chats him up. Not willing to let an opportunity go, he tries to move on her only to get head-butted.

It’s Deadman taking revenge for being trapped by the guy in the Sea King’s dead body. But the ghost leaves, saying Constantine does his worst damage by being with himself.

In the House of Mystery, Zatanna cools off in a pool still adjusting to having her consciousness bonded to the mystical house. She is joined by Asa the Nightmare Nurse.

As Zatanna leaves, a girl appears in the mirrors surrounding the pool and a crack shows on it.

Elsewhere inside the house, Frankestein and Black Orchid stand atop a mountain in conversation with Deadman. They have both decided to leave. While Frank prefers to be alone, Orchid wants to find herself after being an agent of first A.R.G.U.S and then Constantine’s group so far.

But a drunk Constantine interrupts their conversation and in one terrifying moments, manages to subdue forcibly all the people inside before calming down when Zatanna arrives. After a talk, Constantine decides it’s time for closure and leaves.

After Frank and Orchid leave, Zatanna decides to recruit new members to the squad and Swamp Thing is brought in, not too willingly. As they argue, the Nurse suddenly bursts into flames and when she reforms, she declares herself to be not Asa, but April.

We catch up with the major characters in the Dark book with the focus on leaving the past behind and moving forward. Nightmare Nurse’s mysterious beginnings seem to be the focus the next couple of issues.

But the thing that went really right was Constantine. He was spot on and proved himself to hit highs and lows at the same time.

The artwork was appropriate but nothing too great.

So, I give it 7.5 out of 10.
